With few weeks before the end of 2018/19 financial year, some local artisans in Ntcheu are yet to get paid for works carried under Constituency Development Fund in the district.

Those waiting for their money have said now they have lost hope of getting paid after finishing their works late last year.

The artisans accuse Ntcheu District Council of double standards despite finishing undersigned works in respective constituencies in the district.

Those affected supplied timber while others constructed bridges in the seven constituencies across the district.

One of the artisans speaking on condition of anonymity expressed worry with the development saying he is owed about 2 Million Kwacha.

However, the service provider reveals that it was only in the month of October last year when he was paid 3 Million Kwacha as part of his payment.

“I was paid part of payment last year, since then nothing has worked as they push from one office to another upon requesting the remaining amount,” he said.

Nonetheless, the affected timber suppliers are also asking authorities to swiftly address the matter before 2018/19 financial year ends.

Ntcheu District Commissioner, Smart Gwedemula, while confirming the development, said the artisans will get their payments.

However, Gwedemula said council will conduct a verification of the work done in respective areas before making such payments.
