Rumphi First Grade Magistrate Court Friday sentenced Saulosi Chawinga, 20, to five years Imprisonment with Hard Labour for robbery.

The Court heard that Chawinga had attacked Henry Nundwe and robbed him a bicycle and K40, 000 cash.

Both them were heading back home from Hewe Trading Centre when the incident happened.

Police Prosecutor Sub Inspector, Aubrey Maganga said Chawinga beat Nundwe with a stick before stabbing him with a knife on the right leg and went away with the victims bicycle and K40, 000.

“The matter was reported to Hewe Police Unit and Chawinga was arrested on December 11 and his arrest led to the recovery of the victims’ bicycle,” he said.

Maganga pleaded with the Court to give Chawinga a stiffer punishment to deter other would be offenders.

First Grade Magistrate, Cuthbert Phiri sentenced him to five years IHL.

Chawinga hails from Okutobala Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Katumbi in Rumphi District.
