Police in Ntcheu have arrested six people suspected of having a hand in the death of 59 year old man who died after drinking locally brewed beer commonly known as Masese at a village in the district.
Ntcheu Police Station Spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Hastings Chigalu confirmed the development.
According to Chigalu the deceased man is identified as Jamiton Sandifolo.
Police said the incident happened Sunday afternoon at Chikabadwa village, Traditional Authority Phambala in the district.
Chigalu said the deceased met his fate when he went for a drinking spree at a local drinking joint within the village with his friends.
Reports said both imbibers shared the same drinking cup before they left for a funeral at a near-by place.
“The deceased was found few minutes later at his home unconscious with blood discharging from his mouth by his granddaughter,” Chigalu said.
An effort by villagers to save the deceased proved futile hence was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ntcheu District Hospital where he was rushed to.
In the meantime, the six have been remanded at Ntcheu Prison pending charges as police await postmortem results.
The suspects are Lucius Kachingwe, Mason Kachipere, Damison Maboze, Hesten Chithewenjo, Manuel Bema and James Singileti all from Chikabadwa village, T/A Phambala in the district.
