Districts youth representatives who were attending a three-day workshop in Lilongwe are at loggerheads with the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) over allowances.

NYCOM invited the districts youth representatives for a workshop which aimed at reviewing the current National Youth Policy.

The workshop which ended today was being held in Lilongwe at Baptist Theological Center where the leaders have been lodging.

“NYCOM has been playing hide and seek on this issue since we started the meeting on Monday, one of us raised it in the afternoon only to be told that if he is tired with the meeting he should pack and go.

“This is becoming a tradition at NYCOM now because once we are invited, they don’t give us allowances because they always book for accommodation and food. All we want now are the allowances of not less than K6000 per day, or else we are ready to sleep at their offices tomorrow,” said one of the representatives at a meeting they held before Tuesday super.

When they confronted NYCOM officials, he said they were told that they are still discussing the issue.

“But we have made it clear to them that we will not leave before we get our dues, this organisation always take us for granted,” he said.

Officials from NYCOM were not immediately available for a comment.
