Representatives of the copyright society of Malawi (COSOMA) are carrying out investigations to track down people involved in the illegal translation of international films.
This follows an influx of reproduced Chinese films which are being translated into Chichewa.
The practice is reported to be contrary to copyright laws which prohibit reproduction of other artists’ work without seeking permission from either the artists or COSOMA.
The offence attracts a one jail sentence or a fine.
Speaking to capital fm the society’s senor licensing officer Rosario Kamanga revealed that the organization would take its action after noticing an increase in the malpractice.
“We are trying to find out the root of the problem and the persons involved in the malpractice so that action should be taken, to deter other from the act,”said Kamanga.
