Speaker of the national Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara has challenged the newly elected female Members of parliament to support each other.

Gotani Hara made the challenge on Wednesday in Lilongwe during the Oxfam funded breakfast meeting with the new cohort of female MPs at Bingu International Conference Center (BICC).

In her remarks, the first female Speaker, told the female parliamentarians that they will need each in one way or the other as one way of building their careers.

She further appealed to the newly members of the house not to hesitate seeking advice from the long serving members of the house.

“Please humble yourselves and interact with them and get to know their secret to enable them served for more than four terms as female MPs despite tough competition out there,” Gotani Hara said.

She went further by giving the names of Lilian Patel and Anna Kachikho as the long serving female MPs urging the newly MPs to interact and dance to their songs.

She further urged them not to be afraid of making mistakes asking them to be actively participate in the August house.

“Don’t be scared of making mistakes that only women make positive contribution in the house. You need to consult each other and you are free to access my office for advice and the secretariat is always there to help you,” she said.

She further pleaded with the female MPs not to pull each other down but they should strive in helping each other rising.

She concluded by telling them that people in their constituencies are looking up to them for a transformative change.
