Veteran environmental journalist Hatings Maloya will be buried today(Sunday) at his home village of Kambiri in Mulanje district.
Until his death on Friday night at Adventist Hospital in Blantyre, Maloya was Programmes Officer responsible for communications at Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust.
He also once worked at the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation in the early 1990’s.
Meanwhile, several journalists are paying tribute to Maloya describing him as an ardent advocate of media freedom and a campaigner for sustainable use of the environment.
The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter has since expressed sadness with the death of Mr. Maloya.
“Death has robbed the nation of a great son and has come as a great shock to the nation in general and the media fraternity in particular,” reads part of the statement.
“He will be remembered for his open mindedness, his love and passion for environmental issues.”
