FDH Bank and its CEO Thom Mpinganjira, have withdrawn an injunction obtained against Timothy Mtambo, Gift Trapence and Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) stopping them from publishing or mentioning the name of the bank in their pursuit for Malawi Electoral Commission chairperson (MEC) Jane Ansah’s resignation.
The bank says the two parties have reached an amicable agreement on the matter and that the injunction had not been meant to stop HRDC from carrying out demonstrations.
Both parties have since confirmed having reached an out of court settlement on the matter.
HRDC had been organising nationwide demonstrations against Ansah before it was reported that government deposited K4 billion into MEC’s Chief Elections Officer FDH Bank account.
Both MEC and FDH clarified the issue prior to demonstrations held on July 4th, FDH asked the organisers not to mention the name of the bank.
According to the injunction by Messrs Gondwe and Attorneys obtained on July 9, Mpinganjira and FDH were the first and second claimants with Mtambo, Trapence and HRDC being first, second and third defendants respectively.
