Mzuzu University (Mzuni) graduation scheduled for this coming Friday will crash with national wide protest organized by Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) to force the immediate resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah, faceofmalawi can reveal.

HRDC is this coming Friday scheduled to hold the third national wide protest aimed at forcing Ansah to resign for failing to manage the May 21 polls which saw President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika being declared winner.

Speaking in an interview during media briefing held in the capital Lilongwe, HRDC Chairperson Timothy Mtambo said the CSOs will be holding the protest on Tuesday and Fridays every week up until Ansah resigns.

But the Friday demonstrations have crashed with the graduation ceremony of Mzuzu University students in the north thereby putting students under panic over their safety.

This follows a statement released on Monday by Mzuzu University Acting Registrar James Kwilimbe regarding the much awaited graduation.

“I am pleased to confirm that the 20th Graduation Ceremony will be held on Friday, 19th July 2019, and that it has pleased the State President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and Chancellor of Mzuzu University to delegate the Vice Chancellor, Professor John D. Kalenga Saka to preside over the ceremony,” reads in part the statement.

Meanwhile Mutharika’s directive has attracted mixed reactions with many saying the President is afraid of travelling to the North.
