Suspected protesters in Mzuzu have smashed a house belonging Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Director of Youth in the north, Kelvin Chirombo, and then assaulted him.

DPP regional governor, Kenneth Sanga, confirmed the incident.

Currently Chirambo is receiving medical treatment at St. Johns Hospital in the city.

Sanga said the protestors also stormed his house but he was rescued by the Police.

The expected Peaceful demonstrations organized by Human Rights Defenders Coalition in Mzuzu ended in riots as alot of public and private properties were smashed and torched by the angry protesters.

HRDC has been holding a series of nationwide demonstrations in a quest to force Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah to step down alongside all MEC commissioners.
