The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) have said they are going to hold 1 million march on August 6 in each region in the country.

The remarks were said yesterday during a press briefing the human right grouping organized in Lilongwe.

in his remarks HRDC chairperson Timothy Mtambo, said the will not be intimidated by anyone and they will not relent until Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah resigns.

Mtambo added that whether the Inspector General (IG) of police Rodney Jose wants it or not, demonstrations will continue.

Yesterday, the IG had a joint press briefing with army commander demanding that HRDC stop holding demonstrations arguing the Malawi Police Service does not have the capacity to offer protection two times a week.

However, HRDC said once they go into the streets on August 6 they will not move out until Ansah steps down.

HRDC member Macdonald Sembereka said they will not be intimidated by the Police IG’s demand to stop them from demonstrating, saying they will go ahead demonstrating in the country’s streets.
