Political Commentators in the country have questioned President Mrs Joyce Banda following reports that the president has included over forty people on her entourage’s trip to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
One of the country’s Political Scientists Mr Justine Dzonzi said it is unfortunate for the President to take on board such large number of people which includes chiefs and party loyalists when ordinary Malawians in the country are facing economic hardships.
Mr Dzonzi said there is need to remind the People’s Party government that it has a duty to protect ordinary Malawians especcialy in the wake of the devaluation of the Malawi kwacha by excersising prudence in its spending.
Published reports have indicated that Malawians will cough about atleast 308 Million kwacha for air ticket and allowances for President’s Mrs Banda’s trip to the United Nations General Assembly where she is scheduled to be there for three weeks.
On the Vice President Right Honourable Khumbo Kachali’s apology to Malawians on his comments he made in Karonga recently attacking critics of President Banda’s numerous trips Mr Dzonzi had this to say.
In a statement released to the media, the Right Honourable Kachale said he sincerely regret his recent remarks where he said that the President does not go to their mother’s homes and there is no need for anyone to be complaining.
The remarks have been widely criticised for being rude.
