Mzuzu based youth organization, Youth and Society (YAS) has said the increase number of young people participating in the Anti-Ansah demonstrations is attributing to the rising unemployment rate.

According YAS the demonstrations have most been peaceful as expected as they have been violent in most part of the country, with public and private property worth billions of Kwacha destroyed.

It is also reported that most the people arrested in connection with the looting, burning and destruction of property are the youth.

The majority of registered voters for the May 21 elections were the youth.

Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has been holding a series of demonstrations in the country calling fro Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairwoman Jane Ansah to step down.
