Robert Scott is the new US ambassador to Malawi. He takes over from Virginia Palmer whose tour of duty ended in May this year.

Scott, the 20th in the role presented his letters of credence to President Peter Mutharika at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre on Monday.

He reaffirmed to President Mutharika that “the relationship between the United States and Malawi is deep and long-standing. The United States Embassy team in Lilongwe is proud to continue to partner with all Malawians to advance Malawi’s economic development, strengthen governance, and promote the health and well-being of the people of the country.”

Scott was sworn in as Ambassador to Malawi on June 11, 2019 at the US State Department.

Prior to his appointment, he served as acting deputy assistant secretary for the Bureau of African Affairs at the US Department of State.

He was also Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassies in Harare, Zimbabwe and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and served in multiple senior leadership positions at the US Department of State.

The son of a diplomat who first moved to Africa when he was four months old, speaks fluent German, Ukrainian and French.
