Former head of state Bakili Muluzi met the newly formed Interfaith forum for Peace, Justice and Dialoge at his residence in BCA, Blantyre on Tuesday.

Muluzi and the grouping, through its spokesperson Reverend Timothy Nyasulu, confirmed the development.

The meeting was aimed at exploring lasting solutions to the ongoing political impasse in the country.

In his remarks Muluzi said he arranged the meeting as part of peace-keeping mission that he has been undertaking in the country to ensure that peace is not disturbed.

“It was a courtesy call on me, meant to encourage me on the peace-keeping mission that I have undertaken of ensuring peace and stability in this country, by talking to the Human Rights Defenders Coalition [HRDC]. They say they fully support it; this country needs peace,” Muluzi said.

Muluzi has been meeting different stakeholders across the country on a verge to stabilize the country from political impasse.

Recently, Muluzi seek the presence of HRDC to hold talks on the same but he received a cold shoulder from the Coalition.

HRDC Chairperson, Timothy Mtambo, said the Muluzi dialogue had no direction since he has not yet given them feedback from the meeting he had with President Peter Mutharika.
