Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that Tobacco Control Commission (TCC) has today suspended Tobacco markets across the country over the failed anti-Jane Ansah demonstrations organized by Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC).
This has been disclosed in a letter dated August 27, 2019 signed by TCC Director of Technical Services made available to faceofmalawi reporter.
According to the letter, Tobacco sales have been suspended over security concerns of Aunction workers and farmers.
“Following the Security Meeting this afternoon and the advice given by security agents on the same, we would to advise that Tobacco Markets will not open tomorrow Wednesday, 28 August 2019.
“The Commission will provide further guidance for Thursday and Friday as we monitor the situation,” reads in part the statement.
Supreme Court of Appeal on Tuesday granted Attorney General (AG) Kalekeni Kaphale an injunction restraining Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) from holding demonstrations for the next 14 days in the country.
Meanwhile HRDC has promised to return with another wave of protest once the 14 days period expires.
