Two Malawi Defense Force-MDF soldiers are still missing following an attack by rebel groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC last November.
After a 9 months search the two are missing as their regiment colleagues are preparing home coming early next month.
According to MDF spokesperson Major Paul Chiphwanya, all members of the brigade are good with one month prior to the departure.
Chiphwanya explains: “Following that incident, the two are still missing while other 150 are returning home after winding up the mission.”
Six MDF soldiers died during a peacekeeping mission in DRC in November 2018 after an attack by unknown rebel groups.
Meanwhile, few months ago one of the deceased soldiers Corporal Chancy Chitete received a medal of honor from the United Nations because of his good character shown during the attack in trying to help his colleague who then was under siege.
Chitete was shot dead but his friend survived the attack. Chancy Chitete’s widow received the medal.
