Independent Presidential Candidate in the May 21 polls Mr. Reverend Kaliya has denied joining the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Mr. Kaliya who performed poorly in the disputed May 21 polls where Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declared President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika winner was spotted attending DPP rally at Zingwangwa ground in the commercial capital Blantyre.

The Independent President was also given a chance at the rally to speak to the crowd and he hailed President Mutharika’s leadership.

Kaliya also called upon Malawians to remain united and he then urged Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) to put on hold the national wide protest until the case which is in court is concluded.

But speaking to the press after the rally, Kaliya denied joining the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

“I have not joined DPP,” said Kaliya in brief interview.

Meanwhile DPP’s regional governor for the South Charles Mchacha said the party is ready to working with anyone.
