Team Adventure Malawi will for the second year join the 2019 Run 4 Reforestation on Zomba Mountain set for 7 September 2019.
This annual race allows runners to compete in 5km, 10km and 21km on Zomba Plateau in a quest to raise funds for Zomba Trees, a local project that aims to reforest and protect Zomba Plateau and help raise environmental awareness.
This year, Team Adventure is working closely with the organisers in pre-event planning, registration, marshalling, setting water points, managing race information and directing the event.
Team Adventure National Chairperson, Kondwani Chamwala expressed excitement to be part of this noble cause.
“We are happy to be part of Run4Reforestation, since one of the pillars of Team Adventure is nature conservation. We feel we are obliged to take part in every effort which will make the country a better place,” said Chamwala.
Chamwala added that apart from supporting reforestation aspect, Zomba Mountain is a spot for tourism and history, which needs to be protected and cared.
“ Team Adventure focuses mainly Tourism Culture and nature conservation, there is a strong link with this event in promoting tourism, rich history and environmental conservation. We are excited to be given this opportunity to help with our technical expertise during the race,” he said.
The event will start at 7am and is open for both Malawian and non-Malawian citizens. It will start and finish at Sunbird Ku Chawe Inn on Zomba plateau with a grand prize of a fully funded trip to participate in the 2019 Old Mutual Soweto Marathon in South Africa.
Apart from the race, there will also be sustainability fair on the day where different corporates will be showcasing their environmental friendly products and services. Raffle draws and auction of a solar geyser will also take place during the day with fabulous prizes including a stay in various hospitality places, boat and sanctuary tours and vouchers.
The event is organised by Zomba Forest Lodge owners, Tom Finch and his wife Petal has attracted official partners including Old Mutual Malawi, Sunbird Hotels & Resorts, CFAO Malawi and Energem Petroleum Limited.
Team Adventure´s experience and commitment towards tourism and environmental management will bring a fair contribution towards the success of the event. Among other events, the organisation successfully volunteered in the Mount Mulanje Porters Race, Blantyre City Marathon, Sand Music Festival and African Parks Majete community awareness campaigns.
Team Adventure consists of youthful leaders who are capacitated to inspire and lead by example other Malawian youths and the coming generations on the importance of taking a role in tourism, culture and nature as a milestone towards the development of our country. Team Adventure also serves in team building adventure activities tailored for corporates, social groups, church groups and education trips. It also supports social issueincluding recent mobilisation of desks for Chisi Primary School on Chisi Island, Lake Chirwa.
