There are running battle between police and citizens of Mangochi township following the burning down of shacks where people were allegedly peddling chamba and alcohol and behind the Mangochi market.

Early on Friday, the Mangochi District Council burnt the glass thatched sheds in which people sell alcohol and cannabis sativa.

This stirred up anger among the the people who started burning tires and attempted to steal from Burundian shops.

So far the people who gathered to demonstrate against the police action have been dispersed using teargas.

Shops are currently closed.
