President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is expected to leave the country for the United States of America to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Wednesday, 18th September, 2019.
This is contrary to rumours hovering on the social media that President Mutharika was intending to direct his Vice Everton Herbert Chimulirenji to represent him at the summit due to the ongoing political tension where two main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and United Transformation movement (UTM) are protesting the Presidential polls.
The two political parties have since dragged Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to court seeking nullification of the Presidential polls.
Mutharika’s trip to US has been disclosed through a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
But the statement does not provide details of the trip.
