The government is yet to make public the list of delegates that will accompany President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika the 74th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) scheduled to commence today.

President Mutharika is expected to depart the country on Wednesday for New York through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA), according to the statement released by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The statement did not provided details of Mutharika entourage and other relevant information of the trip thereby attracting more questions without answers.

In the past years, President Mutharika came under fire for having a bloated entourage to UNGA of about 121 people.

However, Capital Hill maintained the President’s entourage comprised 20 people and that other Malawians who attended the meeting were sponsored by UN agencies or other financiers.

Critics have argued that large Malawi delegations reflected negatively on the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline amid the suffering of ordinary Malawians.

Meanwhile it is not yet known as to whether government will come on the open and disclose the number of delegates to UNGA.
