Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) will hold by-election in Lilongwe South Constituency on 5th November 2019.

MEC disclosed this today in a statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter signed by Sangwani Mwafulirwa.

“The Commission had initially planned to conduct a by-election in this constituency on 9th July 2019. However, this was put on hold due to lack of funding. In preparation for this by-election, the Commission shall hold a stakeholders’ meeting on 3rd October 2019 in the constituency where it shall provide all information about the election process and release the electoral calendar,” reads part of the MEC statement.

MEC postponed parliamentary elections in the constituency following the death of one of the candidates in the run-up to the 21st May Tripartite Elections.

UTM Parliamentary candidate for Lilongwe South Constituency Agnes Penemulungu died on April 29, three weeks to the election.

Meanwhile MEC hold a stakeholders’ meeting on October 3, 2019 in the constituency where it shall provide all information about the election process and release the electoral calendar.
