The Lilongwe City Council has granted permission to the Human Rights Defenders Coalition to proceed with the anti-Jane Ansah demonstrations tomorrow, despite the unavailability of security agencies on the day as President Peter Mutharika will be traveling to the United States of America for the UNGA.

In a letter issued today, the council has also requested HRDC to make sure that the demonstrations are peaceful, as stipulated by the constitution.

But the council says it would have been proper for HRDC to shift the protests in light of some factors, including giving room to talks with the
Attorney-General.
