Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has expressed disappointments with Lilongwe City Council (LCC) for saying no security agency will be available to provide security for the demonstrators.
LCC yesterday gave the organizers of Anti-Ansah demonstrations permission to hold their planned demonstrations of forcing Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah to step down for allegedly mismanaging May 21 elections.
However, LCC said all the security agencies will be available to provide security to president Peter Mutharika who will be leaving the country to the US for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
When addressing the press in Lilongwe yesterday, the coalition’s chairperson Timothy Mtambo insisted that they will still demonstrate today despite having no security.
HRDC has vowed not to relent from demonstrating until Ansah and her fellow commissioner involved in the polls irregularities face off from MEC activities.
