Police in Salima have arrested Frazer Nkhoma for suspected theft by trickery and impersonating as a public officer.
Salima Police Publicist Sub-Inspector Jacob Khembo confirmed the arrest of Nkhoma.
According to Khembo, Nkhoma was imploring money from chiefs claiming to be an official from the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC).
Khembo continued that, the suspect, lied to Group village Headman Tsekwe of Traditional Authority Khombedza’s area that he would help him to get the Khombedza chieftaincy.
“It is reported that the group village headman was in the line of the chieftaincy of traditional authority Khombedza which the suspect capitalized on to get money from, claiming he would help him get the position,” Khembo said.
Khembo says the suspect Mkhonde could also write some documents to appear as if he got them from the DC’s office as a way of coaxing the chief to believe his tricks.
Khembo said, “From July this year to this month about K780, 000 has been allegedly stolen from group village headman Mtsekwe and other village and group village headmen from the area who were in support of the move to dethrone traditional authority Khombedza.”
The suspect is said to have managed to convince TA Mtsekwe to mobilize chiefs and write a letter, which over seventy-nine chiefs did and signed, addressed to the president on claims that he will send it to the president for consideration.
