Opposition members yesterday took the Minister of Homeland Security Nicholas Dausi to task asking the Minister to find lasting solution to security lapses that are perpetually prevailing when citizens are doing demonstrations in the country.

The issue of violence on protesters during demonstrations took center stage when members from all angles, especially from opposition benches took Dausi to task demanding proper explanation on events that occurred in Blantyre during the failed anti- Jane Ansah demonstrations that the Human Rights Defenders Coalition had organized.

Legislators said sighting violence is depriving the right of citizens to demonstrate

Dausi said he did not have the details of the events as the investigations were still underway, this did not amuse the MPS who accused the minister of shielding the DPP cadets who attacked the demonstrators.

Dowa east Member of Parliament Richard Chimwendo Banda asked the minister to put politics aside and professionally execute his duties by taking to book the perpetrators who he said can visibly be seen assaulting the demonstrators in video clips that have gone viral on social media.

“We want the honorable minister to leave politics behind and focus on bringing the perpetrators to book. The video clips of DPP cadets assaulting the demonstrators are visibly seen on social media,” said Chimwendo.

Conquering with Chimwendo Banda, Neno south MP Mark Katsonga Phiri impressed on the minister to handle the matter with the urgency it deserves.

Meanwhile the minister has vowed to take action on perpetrators and iron out the problem.
