The family of a young man who was allegedly shot by police during the first wave of demonstrations organized by Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) in Lilongwe last Tuesday has said it is going to seek justice.

The young man Jeremiah Gladwell Kaude is battling for life at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe after being allegedly shot at the back during the demonstrations.

The bullet reportedly pierced through Kaude’s stomach and the family said it is waiting for his recovery before starting any legal action. Police say they need more time to investigate the issue.

HRDC has been organizing series of demonstrations promising to be peaceful only to turn out violence.

HRDC and other stakeholders are calling for a resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah for allegedly mismanage May 21 polls.
