Fiscal Police in Lilongwe, today arrested controversial dancing queen and singer Wendy Harawa for bolting with Mampi’s money last month.
Wendy was arrested around 11am by Area 30 police and taken to Lingadzi Police Station.
The singer is alleged to have bolted with Zambian singer, Mampi’s money amounting to K300,000.
The singer has since been released on bail after paying half of the amount, K150,000.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Senior Superintendent Kelvin Maigwa confirmed the arrest of the singer and her subsequent release on bail.
“Yes it’s true; she was arrested by police before being taken to
Lingadzi Police. It’s an issue to do with her bolting with Mampi’s
money but she has now been released on bail,” said Maigwa.
Wendy could not comment on the matter saying she was in a meeting and “I will call back”.
When she called later she asked to be given a few minutes as she was doing rehearsals.
In August, Mampi’s manager Victoria told The Daily Times that they received an amount of K300,000 from owner of Phindu Promotions Abel Kumwenda which was payment for performances.
She said they gave the money to Wendy as their trusted artist to
change it from Malawi Kwacha to Zambian Kwacha, but the Malawian songstress bolted with the money before switching off her phones.
Mampi and her team tried to call her but to no avail.
Kumwenda however, came to the rescue of Mampi and her team, hoping that Wendy would give him back the money.
But Wendy failed to give back the money.
