State House has distanced the country’s First Lady Gertrude Mutharika from a ghost company that has been purportedly awarded K7.8 billion energy contract but the company does not exist.

According to information at hand, the contract was offered by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA).

But Mgeme Kalilani, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s Press Officer has quashed the claims that the ghost company is owned by Madam Mutharika.

“State House would like to inform the general public that the First Lady or the State House has nothing to do with the said contract whatsoever.

“Regardless of the fact that the said contract did not and does not belong to the First Lady in anyway , His Excellency the President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika wishes that investigating authorities should get to the bottom of the matter regarding the alleged ghost contract ,” reads in part the statement.

He added: “The President therefore appeals to all Malawians to use the social media responsibly and avoid using the otherwise good platform to victimize or character assassinate innocent individuals.”
