Police in Chikwawa have arrested a 41-year old man for allegedly killing his wife who was 2-months pregnant.

The suspect, Omaki Chataika, allegedly murdered Nesi Gazilina, 39, after a quarrel.

The incident occurred on Monday night at Thimu village under Traditional Authority Ndakwera in the district.

It is said that the suspect, while reportedly drunk, accused his 18-year-old daughter of indulging in sexual affairs.

He slapped the daughter before the mother intervened.

This, however, could not go down well with Chataika who severely assaulted the wife, accusing her of entertaining her daughter’s loose behaviour.

Following the assault, Gazilina lost consciousness and was pronounced dead on arrival at Ndakwera Health Centre.

Postmortem results showed that she had succumbed to internal bleeding.

Police detectives from Nchalo Police Post apprehended the suspect on the same night and charged him with murder.

Chataika comes from Thimu village in T/A Ndakwera where Gazilina also hailed from.

Meanwhile, the law enforcers are reminding parents to follow proper channels when reprimanding their children; people should also not take the law into their own hands whenever family disputes arise.
