Police in Bangwe have arrested a 45 year old woman Mary Mathesan for being found in possession of eleven bags of indian hemp.

Southern Region Police Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent Nicolus Gondwa said in an interview that Police officers on night patrols on 28 September at Nguludi turn-off in Chiladzuru district got information that the suspect sells the indian hemp.

According to Assistant Superintendent Gondwa the development led the police officers to conduct serch at the her house where it was discovered that she was keeping bags of the indian hemp populary knows chamba.

Meanwhile the bags of chambe have been taeken to Bvumbwe Agricutural Research station and found the 45 bags of chambe weighed 522 kilograms.

Mathesa hails from Mputa village in the Traditional Authority Kadewere in Chiladzuru and will appear in court soon to answer charges of illegal possession of indian hemp.

In related development Police in Luchenza Thyolo district are keeping in custody a 35 year old Mashoni Banda for being in possession of 2 bags of Chamba at a road block.

Southern Region Police Spokesperson Nicolus Gondwa said on Saturday September 29 around 4 AM Police mounted adhoc roadblock and in one of the minibuses they found the bags in question covered with usipa commonly known as Bonya on top.

The bags of chamba are yet to be taken to Bvumbwe Agricultural Research for analysis.
