Police in Chikwawa have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly impregnating his 15-year-old stepdaughter.

Thomas Lupu is alleged to have had sexual intercourse with the victim several times on Mazongoza Island on Shire River.

Lupu, allegedly, started sexually abusing the girl back in March this year when severe floods hit the island.

Following the floods, the suspect’s wife and other children left the island to a safer place, leaving behind the suspect and the victim.

The boat that the wife and children had used was, reportedly, too small to ferry all family members; hence the development.

Lupu took advantage and defiled the victim after threatening to kill her if she kept on rejecting him.

“The two, who used to stay together in the same house, kept on having the sexual intercourse until other family members returned back to the island.

The return, however, couldn’t put off Lupu as he resorted to the bush defiling his stepdaughter.” Sergeant Foster Benjamin narrated.

“In November, the victim was found two months pregnant and revealed that her stepfather was responsible.” Benjamin added

Lupu comes from Chitsa village in the area of Senior Chief Makhuwila in Chikwawa District.
