There are running battles between police and vendors who are baying for the blood for suspected hardcore criminal at Nkhamenya Trading Centre in Kasungu.
The irate vendors have burnt down Nkhamenya police station and three vehicles in the violence.
It is said that the suspect has been terrorizing the area in the recent past and was arrested.
However, the communities reportedly learnt of his release and have since taken to the streets.
The angry community has closed part of the Lilongwe-Mzuzu M1 road with burning tyres causing traffic-jam.
