Standard Bank Malawi Limited has commended the Association of Business Journalists -ABJ-in Malawi for its role in helping push the economic, business and finance news to the populace in its simplest form possible.

The Bank’s Head of Marketing Linda Kachingwe-Sisya said this in Lilongwe when the bank handed over a cheque worth K600, 000 towards the planning of ABJ’s Annual Conference scheduled for September end.

“We are encouraged by the efforts and achievements made by the business journalists under ABJ in the country by ably organising themselves to form a forum that would tackle technical financial and economic issues and make them simpler to understand by the population, this is why Standard Bank was compelled to make this contribution,” said Kachingwe-Sisya.

The National Coordinator for ABJ Mr Thomas Chafunya said Standard Bank’s gesture to contribute towards activities of the association was a clear testimony of credibility associated with the association.

“ABJ is overwhelmed by this contribution by the Standard Bank, as a Pan African bank they have proven to have trust in us hence their action to be part of our activities,

“We appeal to other corporate, and would-be partners to join hands with us in our efforts to make business, finance and economic journalism simpler to the Malawi audience where through our articles whether on TV, Radio or Newspapers every citizen would be able to understand what is happening in the country and the world around us,” said Chafunya.

ABJ was formed in 2008 with initial membership of 14 journalists across the country; today the association has 80 registered members from both mainstream journalism and communication sectors.

Its mandate is to create a forum for sharing business, finance and economic information, enhance tailor-made training for business journalists through sensitisation workshops, creation of public awareness and participation through town-talks among other things.

The Association has partnerships with the Economics Association of Malawi-ECAMA-and the Society of Accountant in Malawi-SOCAM-among others.
