Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Ward Councilor for Mlomba Ward in Machinga district has resigned from the party alleging he was condemned for leading fellow councilors across the country in the quest for improved welfare.

According to information at hand, Councilor Alexander Cosmas led a grouping calling itself concerned Councillors demanding 200 percent monthly honoraria hike.

Cosmas said since leading the group he has been receiving threats from some DPP officials over the matter.

Alexander Cosmas of Mlomba Ward in Machinga district alleges he was summoned by the party leadership at DPP Eastern Region Head Office, where he was manhandled and threatened to be dealt with.

DPP Spokesperson Nicholas Dausi has asked for more time before commenting on the matter while Secretary-General Grezelder Geoffrey says she is yet to receive the letter.

Meanwhile spokeperson in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Mushabase Mughogho has described the move by Cosmas to push for Honoraria hike as illegal.
