Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has refused to meet European Union Observer Mission set to present a report on the May 21 tripartite election today.

The development comes barely hours after United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Saulos Chilima also refused to meet the EU team, arguing that the report presentation is ill-timed.

MCP’s Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka has confirmed, saying the party has communicated its position to EU Mission in Lilongwe.

The EU observer team is expected to jet-in the country today through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe.

MCP and UTM are seeking nullification of the May 21 polls where Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declared President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika a winner.

The constitutional court is expected to deliver its ruling on the matter any day.
