SOUTH AFRICA – KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed an incident of a 20-year-old woman allegedly jumping off the N3 bridge after hiking with three friends on Friday 17 January 2020 near Giba Gorge in Hillcrest, Durban.
KZN police spokesperson colonel Thembeka Mbele told the TheSouthAfrican.com that according to statements taken from witnesses, the victim said she would ‘kill herself,’ moments before they saw her body falling alongside the N3 bridge.
The woman later died in hospital.
Police confirm the woman allegedly jumped off the bridge.
According to Mbele’s witness statements, the victim and three friends decided to hike near Giba Gorge in Hillcrest on Friday evening.
Mbele said that the friends, as well as the victim were allegedly intoxicated. After the hike, it is believed that the woman called her boyfriend to fetch her from where they were.
According to their statements, the turned around and saw her body falling down the bridge.
Mbele said that Metro Search and Rescue were on the scene to assess the woman’s injuries. They transported her to a nearby hospital where she was later declared dead.
