A young man who had just served a six month jail term in Kamuli Remand Prison surprised everybody when he was caught stealing maize from the prison’s garden.
Robert Mugaya, a resident of Kiwoleera in Nabwigulu sub-county, was caught harvesting fresh maize from the garden where he worked when he was a prisoner.
Mugaya was arrested by a guard who saw him packing the maize into a sack and raised an alarm that attracted passersby.
They descended on him with sticks beat him. Mugaya said, having worked in the garden, he wanted to take what belonged to him, but his jail term expired shortly before the maize was harvested.
He was detained at Kamuli Police station.
