Malawi has chances to start manufacturing drugs for life-threatening diseases such as HIV/AIDS and cancer among others.
This is according to President Peter Mutharika after meeting officials from Cipla Quality Chemical Industries in United Kingdom.
“Today, I met in audience Mr. Emmanuel Katongole, Executive Chairman of Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Limited. During the meeting, we discussed the possibility of setting up a pharmaceutical plant in our country,”
“When it materialises, the plant will meet the world’s most stringent regulatory standards and enable Malawi to locally manufacture drugs for life-threatening diseases such as HIV/Aids, cancer and others,” Mutharika said.
Malawi leader said the plant will improve Malawi’s health sector.
“The proposed plant will help us manufacture quality, affordable and up-to-date medicines in order to improve the quantity and quality of life,” he said.
Mr Katongole was accompanied by Dr. Mohan Kaul, Patron of the Malawi-UK Business Group (MUKBG).
