Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General, Grezelder Jeffrey has accused the opposition political parties of buying DPP t-shirts and party cloth in order to cause violence in the planned demonstrations in Eastern region.
Jeffrey said this on Tuesday during a media brifieng held at the party’s Southern Region offices in Blantyre.
“We have information that some opposition parties have bought DPP t-shirts and party cloth. I would like to warn them that if their intention is to discredit the party in whatever way, we will not tolerate it and we will deal with such people accordingly,” said Jeffrey.
Taking his turn DPP’s Administrative Secretary, Francis Mphepo said DPP is a peaceful party and it will ensure that peace prevails as such it will not allow perpetrators of violence to taint the image of the party.
“It is the right of each citizen of Malawi to do peaceful demonstrations. Therefore we are warning all those who are planning to disturb our demonstrations.
“Malawi is the Warm Heart of Africa and you see these violent acts are evening scaring off investors so we are taking advice of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to be peaceful, so don’t disturb us,” said Mphepo.
Meanwhile Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has condemned the attack by DPP cadets on five constitutional court Judges who handled the Presidential polls.
HRDC has since urged President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to intervene on the matter.
