On Wednesday, a 23-year-old newly married woman allegedly ended her life as she was not able to bear the alleged torture inflicted upon her by her husband and his mother, in Kodigehalli.
The deceased, identified as Rabekala, married Raja around five months ago. The couple was living in an apartment located in Kodigehalli near the Sahakaranagar locality. Raja is employed as a driver while his mother Sundari, is a homemaker.
Woman’s father lodges complaint
According to a complaint filed by Rabekala’s father Anthonyswamy, Raja and his daughter fell in love and tied a knot five months ago.
On Wednesday, he received a call from her in-laws who informed him that she has committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling.
Following this, Anthonyswamy approached the Kodigehalli police and lodged a complaint against Raja and Sundari.
Anthonyswamy claimed that the accused duo abused and tortured his daughter, owing to which Rabekala resorted to the extreme step and ended her life.
Accused arrested
According to reports based on the deceased woman’s father’s complaint, the police arrested the accused on the same day and they were sent to judicial custody.
A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for abetment of suicide.
