United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi who is also the possible runningmate of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has defended his donation of medical equipment to China amid coronavirus outbreak, saying he did that out of sympathy.

Muluzi came under heavy criticisms from Malawians for donation medical equipment to China while most public hospitals in the country are in dare need.

“Lessons of the “Widow’s Might” – ‘ He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.

“Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, ‘Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.’ – #Humanity,” wrote Muluzi.

Globally, more than 93,000 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the vast majority of them in China where the virus originated late last year.
