Zomba Principal Resident Magistrate Ben Chitsakamire has been interdicted for dubiously releasing and quashing the arrest of well-known business tycoon Thom Mpinganjira.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Mpinganjira in January on allegations that he attempted to bribe Constitutional Court Judges who handled the Presidential polls case.
Mpinganjira was granted bail by Chitsakamire at midnight raising suspicion among Malawians with many calling for investigations on the matter.
Reviewing Chitsakamire’s order, High Court Judge Dorothy Kamanga found the ruling irregular and asked the Judicial Service Commission to summon Chitsakamire for discipline hence the interdiction.
Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal Registrar Agnes Patemba confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
Meanwhile Lawyer Lusungu Gondwe is also facing disciplinary action at Malawi Law Society and his fate will be known soon.
