United Transformation Movement (UTM) Secretary General Patricia Kaliati has challenged President Peter Mutharika to assent electoral amendment bills.

Kaliati challenged Mutharika at UTM rally on Sunday at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre.

About a month ago Parliament passed electoral bills giving way fresh elections following Constitutional Court ruling which nullified May 21, 2019 presidential polls.

Speaking at the rally Kaliati said if Mutharika is really a man he will assent the electoral bills hence preparing to defend his victory.

“We demand that president Peter Mutharika assent the bill now because change is here to stay,” Kaliati said.

The constitution gives president 21 days to sign the bills into law, but different stakeholders are worrying that Mutharika might not do as requested.

If Mutharika fails to sign the bills are likely to be sent back to parliament where they will be debated and passed.
