Monsanto Malawi has called upon the general public to assist in raising alarms on fake seed vending in this year’s seed-selling season.

This was said in an exclusive interview with the country’s Manager, Paul Chimimba after a meeting that the company conducted at Mzuzu Sunbird hotel with an aim to enlighten with the agro dealers the problems that were encountered in the last year’s season and ways of overcoming them this year.

“Apart from critical challenges like foreign currency and fuel scarcity that the company encountered in last year’s season, fake seed on markets appeared to be another problem. This act was much conspicuous in the central and southern region.

“So we are ageing the general public to assist us in reporting to the relevant authorities like the police when they suspect the malpractice happening,” he said.

Chimimba further said this year police in Lilongwe have managed to arrest some of the people that are involved in the fake seed vending.

“We are conducting sensitization campaigns in conjunction with Seed Trade Association of Malawi and Malawi Police to the general public so that they become aware of our seed product and be able to differentiate from the fake one,” he added.

On the same sensitization campaigns the company has also assigned members that are educating the general public through the media about how they can identify genuine Monsanto seed.

Monsanto Malawi is one of the biggest seed-making companies in the country.
