Malawians have praised the outgoing Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Commander Vincent Nundwe for defending the constitution of the land during his tenure of office.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika fired Nundwe on Tuesday and replaced him with Major General Peter Andrew Lapken Namathanga amid political tension ahead of the fresh Presidential polls as order by the constitutional court.

The firing of Nundwe has attracted mixed reactions with many accusing President Mutharika of going off-track, saying Nundwe was the general of the people.

Chinyozi Francis Movita wrote: “He served the nation with interest of the people at heart and he shall forever be remembered for his good works. Long live Nundwe one of the fine generals Malawi has ever had.”

Concurring with Movita’s remarks Lotan Banda wrote: “True General NUNDWE you served with wisdom integrity and professionalism, you deserve all credits and respect from Malawians for excuting your duties according to constitutional order leaving behind selfish ambitions of the authority. The nation Will not forget you.”

On his part Kingsley Chiume Mkusah wrote: “You deserve respect. You did your part and at times it’s good to leave while your hands are clean.”

Lawyer for United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Saulos Chilima, Khumbo Soko also praised Nundwe.

“He served his nation well. He can fade into his retirement with his head held high. Salute!👮♂️👮♂️👮♂️,” wrote Soko.

Meanwhile Nundwe has urged the new commander to defend the constitution of the land.
