The initiative to be implemented in collaboration with its partners is aimed at mitigating risk and containing the pandemic in the event of an outbreak.

Mulanje is a bordering district with Mozambique and is at a higher risk because of porous borders.

Mulanje District Health Office Assistant Environmental Officer, Masilina Kausiwa says this is the reason the office decided to formulate the plan.

She indicates that the plan focuses on social mobilization, surveillance of hotspots and purchase of medical supplies and equipment.

The Malawi News Agency reports that currently the country has over 268 people on follow-up who had a history of travel to the affected countries.
