Government says it has released additional K40 million to finance the operations of the Commissionon the inquiry of abductions and killings of persons with albinism.
Information minister, Mark Botomani told journalists that the funds will help the commission to finalise the investigations and report on abductions and killings of persons with albinism.
Botomani said the additional funding was in response to the request made by the commission.”After they had done the initial work and then asked for extension of time they had run-out of funds. Andthey had to come back to government to ask for additonal funds.
This coming week, I have been informed that government will be releasing money to the tune of K40 million for the commission to finish it’s work.” He said
Botomani and Chairperson for the Presidetial Committee on Protection of Persons with Albinism Dr. Hetherwick Ntaba have asked for patience and said it was unnecessary for the Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) to demand the commission to release the report within seven days.
The Commission of inquiry is being chaired by the Justice Richard Chinangwa retired.
