Information sourced by Faceofmalawi indicates that five Presidential candidate have collected nomination papers from Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) ahead of fresh Presidential polls as ordered by the Constitutional Court on February 3, 2020.

MEC will hold fresh Presidential polls on July 2, 2020 and not on May 19, 2020 as proposed by the National Assembly.

According to information at hand, five Presidential candidates have collected nomination papers including Independent Presidential candidate Ras David Chikomeni Chirwa who was disqualified in the runs up to the May 21, 2019 polls.

Apart from Chirwa, some of the candidates who have collected the nomination papers are Smart Swira- Independent, Anuwale Phalira – Independent, Shaibu Mustafa – New Vision for Development Party and Peter Kuwani of Mbakuwaku Movement for Development.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) who is in alliance with the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the main opposition Malawi Congress party (MCP) of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and its bedfellow United Transformation Movement (UTM) of Dr. Saulos Chilima are yet to collect their nomination papers.

Meanwhile Malawians are pushing for the resignation of MEC commissioners led by its chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah.
